A few days ago, a friend asked if I would be willing to do a makeover to help her out. What the heck, a woman can always learn something about what to do with her makeup so today was the day.

Part of my morning quiet time consists of reading my devotionals, my Bible & reading the verse on my calendar for the day. It has been amazing how God has spoken into my heart through my calendar over the years. Today being Good Friday, my devotionals spoke on the death of Christ. Fully expected. I expected a verse on my calendar to do the same. Imagine my surprise when I tore off the previous day, to read:

Seriously!!!! Can anyone but our God have such exquisite timing so as to align a cosmetic makeover, a calendar & His Word!!!! Only God!!! No one will ever be able to tell me that He does not have a sense of humor!!!

As I sat thinking about all this, some thoughts came to me. I think the thoughts came to me because lately God has been in my business & in my heart causing me to examine a few things. He’s real good at doing that too! His scalpel is sharp, skillfully excising what needs to be removed.

We are so careful about our appearance & how we present ourselves to others. Yet Christ in addressing the “teachers of the law” & the “Pharisees”, well learned men & well versed in the law, says this:

“Woe to you, teachers of the law & Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup & dish, but inside they are full of greed & self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup & dish, & then the outside will be clean.” Matthew 23: 25-26

“Woe to you, teachers of the law & Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones & everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy & wickedness.” Matthew 23:27-28

There we have it – He sees if our hearts are full of greed, self-indulgence, hypocrisy & wickedness. And no matter what we do to our outsides, He still sees the ugliness that we hide inside.

Today, being Good Friday, may I remember that He gave His life for me to give me the ultimate makeover!!!!
