Tonight Danny was going to be a little late getting home from work. So I settled on the couch to read a bit. Have you ever noticed that we tend to have a favorite place to settle in to read or watch TV? It is that place that is comfortable, suits us, feels so right. It takes time for a favorite place to become “ours”. It takes a little breaking in, a little time going through experiencing that particular spot. It may not have even felt very comfortable at first. Ever notice that your comfortable spot is where everyone wants to sit!! Seriously. We have gone through the pains of breaking it in & others reap the benefit of  what we have gone through.  I read this tonight…

“God doesn’t comfort us to make us comfortable, He comforts us to make us comfort-able; able to be used as vessels through which God can pour our His mercy, love, & comfort to others.” (from “Leading Women to the Heart of God” by Lysa TerKeurst – page 42).

Wait – it isn’t for MY comfort? It isn’t for me to be comfortable? He comforts me so that I can comfort others? This means in everything I go through in my lifetime, there is purpose not only for me but for others. In receiving from Him, I then become a vessel by which He is displayed. He is in the business of making me comfort-able. He is making me an agent of comfort. That just makes all I go through so much more worth it.

“Praise be to the God & Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion & the God of ALL comfort, who comforts us in ALL our troubles, SO THAT we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” (2Corinthians 1:3-4)

Tonight I realized that in surrendering everything I go through in my life, I may never know the difference I can make. But surrender I must. So that everything may be used by my God for His purposes. So the question I am asking myself tonight is  – do I want to be comfortable or comfort-able?
