Omissions.

The dictionary defines these as:

  1. something neglected, left out, or left undone
  2. the act, fact or state of leaving something out or failing to do something especially that is required by duty, procedure or law

There we have it. Omissions. On Sunday, NBC aired the US Open Golf Tournament. During the Pledge of Allegiance, the words “one nation under God” were omitted. When I read about it on Monday morning, I could hardly believe what I was reading. What was amazing to me was the short apology that was offered by NBC, who stated that they were sorry if it offended anyone. Offended anyone? It should offend many.

Their apology was a weak one, if you ask me, not that anyone is asking. They did what they did because they did not care about what they were omitting. They went ahead with the omission. What they were not expecting was that it would trend on Twitter. They were not expecting the amount of outrage that it would, indeed, generate.

As I have been thinking about this today, this is the verse that comes to mind:

“Do not forget this! Keep it in mind! Remember this, you guilty ones. Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, & there is none like me.”  (Isaiah 46: 9,10).

God wants us to remember. He wants us to remember what He has done in the past. He wants us to remember Who He is. May we remember……

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
