I have always said that I love that God has a sense of humor. And I truly have always meant that. Till today…

I was reading & working on a Bible study & the topic for today was, “A Word to the Lazy”. It seemed safe enough. I didn’t quite see myself as fitting into that category. A few verses were shared to maybe help the reader define “lazy” or get a better picture of themselves:

  • “Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control”.            (Proverbs 25:28)
  • “As a door turns on its hinges, so a sluggard turns on his bed.”     (Proverbs 26:14)
  • “The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.” (Proverbs 26:15)

I think it was the use of the word “sluggard” that began to get under my skin.

Sluggard is defined as….“a person who is habitually inactive” (per dictionary.com). Interesting that it can become a habit. So it is something that needs to be broken of? I think the term “sluggard” got under my skin because the end of summer is here. I return to work Monday. There is so much that remains undone that I had hoped to get done over this summer.

Then I read….

“Start with small things. What one small thing will you start with?” (Brave, by Angela Thomas, page 78).

Before I could continue, I had to get up & go do that one small thing. I had to go through my files & dispose of ones no longer needed. I threw out old papers & sorted & organized those that would remain. It took a short time but it felt good to get that one thing done & crossed off my list.

OK, so I am over that God saw & put His finger on my sore spot today. But then, I guess that is what His Word is supposed to do. I still think He has a great sense of humor. He surely knew how to motivate me today to get the task done.

So what have you put off that needs to get done today?
