Lately I have been thinking about the Holy Spirit. Let me explain….

Christ, in talking with His disciples, promises them that they will never be alone. He promises that they will have the Spirit of truth indwell them. Christ further explains that the Holy Spirit will teach them all things & will remind them of everything that He has said to them. (John 14:15-26). That was a tremendous promise & I am sure that this unique group of men appreciated all that they were being told & promised.

Life remained hard for this band of Christ’s followers. They all faced persecution. All, except John, faced the death of a martyr. John faced exile & torture. I am sure he must have questioned why he was left to live without any of those men that were closest to him.

Yet everyone remained believers in Christ, fulfilling the purposes that they were called.

Let’s fast forward in time…..

There are times that we each feel that the world is against us. That we have been forgotten. That we are on our own. Alone.

There are times that our spirits feel wounded & broken. We’re humbled. Sometimes we are just glad to have made it through yet another day.

It is days like this when I am reminded that I have everything that I need right inside of me. The very same promise that Christ gave His disciples has been given to us.

“Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of His glory.” (Ephesians 1:13b-14 NIV).

The day that I accepted Christ, the Holy Spirit indwelt my person. I now house that same Spirit as the disciples years ago. That same Promise now resides inside of me that was inside of  each of them. I have been sealed, His Spirit remains with me. Where I go, He now goes.

Do we really think about what that truly means each day? Do we rely on Him as heavily as we can & should?

His Spirit will:

        guide us

remind of His love for us

                     remove doubt & fears

infuse us with strength to face the day’s challenges

give grace & peace to a frazzled mind.

Bottom line is that His Spirit is all that we need & will give us whatever it is that we need. He is within us. Today may I rely on Him.
