There are times in each of our lives that we find ourselves “in the dark”. Yourdictionary.com describes this expression as “in secret, in concealment, a state of ignorance, uninformed, and more specifically, as keeping someone deliberately in a state of ignorance.” Bottom line? It is not a reassuring place to find oneself.

Seeing as we all find ourselves in the dark at some point, the question behooves us…

What are we to do during those times?

Scripture answers that question:

“If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God.”Â  (Isaiah 50:10 NLT).

Let’s face it – there are times in life when we walk in the dark of our circumstances. We don’t know which way to turn, what to decide, what we are to do. That word “walk” means just that – “used to indicate motion without any suggestion of a definite destination” (Old Testament Lexical Aids, Key Word Bible). There are days all of our movement, our activity goes nowhere.

It is then that we are to trust in the Lord. “Trust” is used here to mean, “to attach oneself to, to be confidant, to feel safe. Denotes a confident expectation.” (again, the Old Testament Lexical Aids, Key Word Bible).

During those times of uncertainty or indecision, we attach ourselves to the Only One that we can be confidant in & hold on until we know how we are to move. We rely on our God. He is the One that we can lean on & never topple over. We are assured….

“Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.”Â  (Isaiah 58:8 NLT).
