This morning I woke up to yet another cloudy, foggy, misty, murky kind of day. Five days in a row this has been the outside weather ””””

To be honest, I want some sunshine to come breaking through.

As I said that out loud, I thought of my friend, who has experienced one setback after another. This week brought yet another setback. Naturally the question that passed through our minds was, “Why?”. It is the question that has hounded God’s people down through the ages – – – Why do bad things happen to good people?

Now don’t expect a theological debate or explanation here. I truly cannot answer that other than to say, “I don’t have an answer.” But this morning in looking out the window, I thought,”God just one breath & all these clouds would be gone.” He is able. As I reflected on that, I realized that in that same way, one day, He will right every wrong, every injustice. He will.

And that brings me to Isaiah 25 –

“But here on this mountain, God-of-the-Angel-Armies will throw a feast for all the people of the world, A feast of the finest foods, a feast with vintage wines, a feast of seven courses, a feast lavish with gourmet desserts.  And here on this mountain, God will banish the pall of doom hanging over all peoples, The shadow of doom darkening all nations.  Yes, he’ll banish death forever. And God will wipe the tears from every face. He’ll remove every sign of disgrace From his people, wherever they are. Yes! God says so!”Â  (Isaiah 25:6-8  The Message).

There we have it. The proverbial cloud that seems to hang over our heads will one day be blown away with just one breath from our God. Every pall of doom. Every shadow of doom. Every sign of disgrace. Gone! Because He says so. One word from Him & on that day, it all will be lifted from us.

And our response at that time will be?

“Also at that time, people will say, “Look at what’s happened! This is our God! We waited for him and he showed up and saved us! This God, the one we waited for! Let’s celebrate, sing the joys of his salvation.” (verse 9, The Message).

Today may we remember ””

“You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.” (verse 4 NIV).

This is what He has been for us & will continue to be for us. He is our refuge, our shelter & our shade. He is!

And so our response at this time?

“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.” (verse 1 NIV).

So I may not have the answer to the “why’s. I cannot control the things that happen around me & to me. But I can control my response to them. Today may I remember to exalt God & praise His name – in the midst of all that happens. May I remember that there is a feast coming one day & we will celebrate His faithfulness to us.
