I think most of us have heard of “The Serenity Prayer” – “God grant me the serenity to accept that which I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Today I learned this is only a portion of the prayer. Perhaps you may not have known there is more to that prayer as well…..

As I read the above prayer, I realized how important it is for each of us to find contentment with wherever we are in life. The Holman Bible Dictionary defines ”˜contentment’ as, “an internal satisfaction which does not demand changes in external circumstances.” Contentment is not dependent on anything changing.

Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, gives us some great advice for each day:

“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.  Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.” (Ephesians 5: 15, 16 NLT).

I need to make the most of today & the opportunities that this 24 hour segment of time brings to me. I will only pass this day once.

What do I need to change today?

What am I unable to change but able to surrender?

May God make me wise to know the difference.
