Early mornings. I love them.

This morning, the phone rang, breaking the peaceful silence in the house. I must run out to help a loved one. No time to get dressed. Only enough time to throw a baseball cap on my head, a jacket on my body & go.

My morning, interrupted just like that.

On the drive over to where I needed to be, I noticed there were no cars on the road. Only me. The peaceful silence seemed to have followed me out of my house & into my ride. The silence was so deafening that even me, who BLASTS my music all the time in my car, could only play it softly. The sun was coming up over an old farm field, glistening on the frost that was on the grass. The rays bursting through the evergreens that were on the perimeter of the field. And there in the middle were two deer – a mama & her baby.

Was it only last night that I read:

“And we know that God causes everything to work together  for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”Â  (Romans 8:28 NLT).

Could it possibly be that even in this interruption, He caused each of these glimpses of Himself to bless me in the midst of the interruption?

I got to my destination. Loved one helped. And on the drive home, I notice that the morning looks entirely different heading in the opposite direction. The sky has now clouded. The day looks grey, stark. The deer are gone.

This morning I was reminded of the very familiar passage in Isaiah that says, He will give beauty for ashes. Could it be even in those interruptions, that may not seem so beautiful at times, He looks to bring beauty?

“He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair.”Â  (Isaiah 61:3a NLT).

He turns our ashes into a crown of beauty. Instead of mourning, He gives gladness. Instead of despair, He gives us praise.

He can do this for us in those interruptions that happen on any given day. And why? Why does He do this for us?

“They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.” (Isaiah 61:3b NIV).

Somehow in the midst of those interruptions as He turns it around, we become a people that are for the display of HIS splendor. These things are for His glory & for our very good.

Yes, I am so glad that I read Romans 8:28 last night:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
