Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Timothy 1:17 NIV).
- “To the King eternal..” The term denotes God as the ruler since creation & onto the end of the ages. Not once is our God any less King. No circumstance, no problem ever removes Him off of His throne.
- “…immortal…” Interesting word. It means immune from decay or corruption. But even beyond that, it means not capable of corruption (New Testament Lexical Aids). He will never be less than He is at any moment. He is not capable of wearing or wasting away.
- “….invisible…” We may not be able to see God physically but we see God in & through the person & work of Jesus Christ.
- “…the only God…” Bottom line? He has no competitors. He stands alone.
Today I saw God show up in & through two difficult situations. He showed up in the life of a dear friend who was facing what could have been a costly health insurance situation. I also saw Him show up in the life of a relative getting results back from an MRI & the report was a good one. It is on days like today that I realize anew the sovereignty of God in the lives of His people. He can overrule & overturn. He can make a way even when there seemingly is no way.
Travis Cottrell sings a song that pretty much is this Scripture put to music. I have been singing it for days. It seems appropriate to share it. May the truth of this verse & who our God is fall fresh on us all.
