A few months ago, one line in a song kept going through my head. Repeatedly. Just the one line. So much so, that I was unable to even think of the rest of the song or even the name of the song that it was in. Thankfully, Lisa was able to help me out with that.

She was able to help me because, oddly enough, she too, had been listening to that song repeatedly. Up to that point, neither of us had mentioned the song to the other.

The single line says this…

“And when I cannot stand, I’ll fall on You…”

There are days that we feel like we just cannot stand. There are times that life is too hard, too stressful, too overwhelming, too  ____________. It is on those very days that we can say, “And when I cannot stand, I’ll fall on You.”

Yesterday was one of those “falling” days. There was no where else to go but to Him. The line in the song came back to memory, yet again.

I was curious as to what Scripture would tell me about falling:

  • If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. (Psalm 37:24 NIV)
  • Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. (Psalm 55:22 NIV)

Now back to the song….The one line is found in the bridge…..

“So teach my song to rise to You
                               When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay.

It seems to me that God tells us that as we commit ourselves & our burdens to Him, He will hold us up by His own mighty hand. When we cannot stand, we fall on Him. Falling, He enables us to stand. He becomes our hope & stay.

It is such a great song. It is Chris Tomlin’s “Lord, I Need You.” May it bless you as you listen…..

***Lisa, this post is dedicated to you. May you fall on Him. You will find safety there. And you will find yourself standing. I love you!
