Tuesday night I went to church for Bible Study. While setting up, my eye contact began to irritate my eye. So I popped my contact out, rinsed it with solution from my purse & then thought that perhaps I should go to use the mirror in the bathroom to put my contact back in place. Once getting to the bathroom, I realized…..

that somewhere on my way to the bathroom, I had lost my contact from my finger!

The panic that quickly set in was unreal. I would not be able to read a thing without my contact & I had no reading glasses in my purse.

Lisa & I quickly began to scour the floor from the fellowship hall to the bathroom in the hopes of finding my contact. We finally found it. I rinsed it in water, used my solution & put it back in my eye (yes, I know that my eye doctor would probably be horrified to know this). Oh the relief that flooded me in knowing that I would be able to see & to read. For the last few days, I have not been able to stop thinking about how we diligently searched for that small contact.

It reminded me of a few other searches that Jesus tells us about in Luke 15:

  • A man has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. He will leave the ninety-nine to go find the one lost sheep. When he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he gets that little sheep home, he calls his friends & neighbors over to come & celebrate with him that he has found his lost sheep.
  • A woman has ten silver coins & loses one. She will light a lamp & sweep the entire house until she finds the one lost coin. When she has found that one coin, she will call to her friends & neighbors to come over & celebrate with her that she has found her lost coin.
  • And then there is the story of the two sons. One who takes his inheritance & leaves while his father is still alive. He squanders it all. He is working the pig pens, when he comes to his senses & returns home to his father. The father calls for a celebration upon the return of the son.

There are several points to these parables:

  1. There is much rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents. Upon finding my contact, Lisa & I were filled with joy. Sure I had one contact but oh the joy of finding the other. Each one is needed. Each one is precious.
  2. Our God will pursue each one of us with a stubborn & persistent love. Much the same way we diligently searched the floor to find my contact, God will diligently & actively search for us.

How precious a thought today to realize the depths to which God will search for us.

“For the Son of Man  came to seek and save those who are lost.”Â  (Luke 19:10 NLT).

Today I am comforted by these thoughts as I think of loved ones that are not yet “found”. I am reminded that my God is chasing them down. He is hounding them. He is calling to them. His very purpose in coming is to seek & save those who are lost. And when they are found….

                                               He calls for a celebration!
