Jesus Christ is Lord over my heart, and he is Lord over my hands, and he is Lord over what I do with these hands, and he is Lord over what I say in my heart while I’m doing it. In submitting to the lordship of Christ, then, I do not treat washing dishes as wasting time I could be spending doing something ”˜meaningful,’ but rather as a service to those who eat in my home, as a service to those who would have to wash dishes if I did not, and as an offering of thanksgiving to God that I have food to eat, dishes to eat it on, and running water inside my home to clean with.

I wish I could remember where I got the above quote, but I did not write it down. But I LOVED it. I have been coming back to this quote repeatedly since reading it & asking myself, “What if…..”.

“What if I were to truly remember & practice this in doing the mundane?”

I can only imagine how different life would be. I can only imagine how different I would be! Imagine praying this when….

  • Ironing. Yes I listed that first as it is probably the chore I dislike the most
  • Doing the laundry
  • mopping or vacuuming
  • cleaning the bathrooms
  • doing the food shopping
  • paying the bills
  • helping the kids with homework
  • taking care of that sick child (or husband)

Well, you get the point. What would happen if I remembered & practiced this? Truly. I can’t help but wonder if this is not what Paul meant in writing…

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice””the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. (Romans 12:1 NLT)

This morning I cannot help but ask myself, “What if?”

May God remind me of this later when I am ironing!
