Sophia has always enjoyed doing puzzles. From the very simple pegboard puzzles, she has progressed to now doing 100 piece puzzles. But every now & then, out come the board puzzles. Today was such a day.

Today she pretended to put the pieces in places they did not belong. After teasing for a while, she pointedly asked,

“Mimi, why can’t the pieces fit everywhere?”

I explained to Sophia that only when the pieces are correctly positioned will they create a picture. She became intrigued with each piece – looking at the shapes & realized that not every piece fit together or had similar colors & patterns. As she continued to mull this all over, she remarked, “And we want it to make a beautiful picture, right?”

I am finding myself thinking on that question tonight.

Why don’t the pieces of life always fit together, wherever & whenever we want?

God has so wired each of us so that He would be the only able to fully satisfy us. Our needs are very much like the pieces of a board puzzle ”””” only when interlocked, the correct way, do they then complete the picture. Our needs are just like that. As our needs interlock with the manner in which God meets them, then and only then, do we get the completed picture. When the pieces of a puzzle are forced in, the picture goes awry, it is skewed. If we get our needs satisfied apart from God, the very same thing happens with our lives – they go awry.

We are to find our needs met in our God. We are told:

“When you (God) open your hand, you satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.”Â  (Psalm 145: 16 NLT).

May we not struggle any longer, trying to fit the pieces in a manner they were not meant. As we bring our needs before Him to be met, He satisfies us – He meets the need exactly. The puzzle pieces interlock & the picture of our lives makes perfect & complete sense.

And yes!!! Sophia, we want it to make a beautiful picture!
