Yesterday was the 4th part in our church series – Better…..

Better a good name.

“A good name is more desirable that great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” (Proverbs 22:!)

The NLT uses the wording, “a good reputation.”

Let’s face it – we all have a reputation of some sort. The question         becomes….

What are you known for?

If you were to ask people that question, what would their responses be?

A good name doesn’t mean your are perfect; but being         perfected by the One Who is.

A name is always associated with something which is why baby names is such a popular Google search. A search will produce 169 million results. Why?

Names carry great weight – whether good or bad.

Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly     possess. The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to be.” (Socrates).

Desire to be like Christ.

Why is a good name better?

  1. A good name instills confidence. “People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will slip & fall.” (Proverbs 10:9)
  2. A good name speaks for you. (2 Chronicles 9:1, 5, 6) REMEMBER: Your character makes the name; NOT, the name makes the character.
  3. A good name inspires others. (1 Corinthians 11:1) Be an        example that others can follow.

What if you don’t have a good name? None of us had a good name before Christ – Romans 3:23 – “For ALL have sinned & fall short of the glory of God.” Even though our names may be tarnished. our Savior & Redeemer’s name IS good.

You are creating tomorrow’s legacy today!

Will post the sermon in its entirety as soon as it is available.
