This past Sunday, we started a new teaching series titled, Better. Each week we will look at a different aspect of how life is better with God. This week’s Scripture was:

“Better is one day in your courts that a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.” (Psalm 84:10 NIV).

So that being true, the question we were challenged with was:

Exactly how do we have a day with God?

  1. Live with an ongoing, unending awareness of God’s Presence. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17 NIV).
  2. Develop the habit of constant communication with God. “Be joyful always, pray continually.” (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-17 NIV). Much the way we have become a people of short 140 character tweets, send up short prayers to God throughout the day.
  3. Instant obedience to God. “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5: 25 NIV). Follow the nudge of the Spirit.
  4. Have a daily desperation for God. “Taste & see that the Lord is good.” (Psalm 34: 8a NIV). Develop an appetite for the things of God.

Bottom line? “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.” (Psalm 63: 3-4 NIV).
