I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge”“that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

I have read this portion of Scripture so many times. I can also           remember being asked as a congregation to say it aloud, hand       motions & all, at the start of many church services. But somehow I missed a few things or today it fell on me anew.

If we were to truly grasp the truth that this verse is saying, we would know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we are deeply loved by God.

The use of the word “know” in this verse is to indicate an intimate     relationship. In other words, Adam “knew” Eve. You get the point. We may never be able to fully understand fully how the God Who created all things loves us. But then, this “knowing” is a heart issue not a       knowledge issue.

Perhaps the key to unlocking this knowing in width & length & height & depth is to let go of waiting until we can fully understand it &     grasping that He simply does. To grasp means that we seize it, we hold onto it firmly. That is all that He wants us to do – seize & hold onto the truth that He loves us. Just the way we are.

Growing up in Sunday School, we sang a song…..Today may we hold onto this simple truth….

“Yes, Jesus loves me!

          Yes, Jesus loves me!

                  Yes, Jesus loves me!

                          The Bible tells me so.”
