Yesterday I babysat the girls so that Lisa could go to her eye doctor appointment “child free”. During that time frame, I played with Sophia, gave her lunch, & when the time came, put her in for her nap. She quickly realized that I had not put her in for a nap since before Lisa started maternity leave which was probably in May.  This conversation began ….

“Mimi, I don’t know about this.”

Me: “Know about what, Sophia?”

“I don’t know if I am going to be able to sleep.”

Me: “Sure you will. It is your nap time.”

“But it has been a LONG time since you put me in for my nap.”

Me: “I used to do it every day for you at my house. Remember?”

“Yes. But it has been a LONG time, Mimi. I don’t think you can do it.”

Do what, I ask you? Seriously. I assured her that I still knew how to put her in, how to place her doggie blanket, I would pray with her & she would nap. She responded …

“Yes. You think you know how to do it. But it has been a long time. Are you really sure you know how to do it?”

I quickly assured her I was an “expert”. Her response?

“If you say so…..”, still sounding hesitant.

Both girls need to sleep with a particular blanket, each has one.

I am still laughing this morning over this conversation. I quickly stopped laughing when I realized that I am much like Sophia at times when it comes to God & prayer. Yes, I am serious.

“Lord, do you think You can really answer this prayer for me?”

“It’s been a long time.”

“I have not seen an answer to prayer in a long time.”

“Are you really sure You know how to do it?”

You get the point…..

We tend to equate God’s ability to God’s frequency. The enemy has us believing that if we have not seen His action right now, then He is not able. That is a lie! A delayed response does not equal inability. There are times, in His wisdom, that God waits.

May we not doubt in His ability during those times of waiting. During those times that He may seem hidden from us, may we hold onto the truth of His Word. As we wait, we hope & He will hear.

“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God, my Savior, my God will hear me.” (Micah 7:7 NIV).

Interesting thing I discovered about this verse:

“I wait” translates a Hebrew verb form (cohortative of resolve) meaning “I am resolved to wait for God my Savior to act.” May says, “He watches the future for an act of God as besieged men watch the horizon for the appearance of relief. He does not give up & surrender to depression, but “waits” for the most powerful form of action by the helpless…..who express in their waiting the knowledge that God comes to them in the form of salvation.”

New American Commentary, Volume 20, page 125

So, when I am much like Sophia & ask, “Lord, are you sure you know how to do it?” may I quickly remember that He is sure. May I resolve, dig my heels in & wait for my God, my Savior to act. For He surely can!
