I will admit – I would probably be considered a reality show junkie. Within reason :).  I enjoy watching Survivor, Amazing Race, and…… The Voice. I love The Voice. The camaraderie of the four judges, the bantering & the way in which contestants are selected is done in a way that is good fun & affirming to the contestants. I love that! But the aspect of the show which I find most engaging is the selection process. The judges do not ever get to see the contestant until after they have auditioned. Their backs are to the contestants & only when they are struck by their talent, do they get to hit a button & have their chair turned around to see who it is that is singing. They are selected solely based on their talent & not on their appearance. At times, the judges are struck by the appearance of the contestant – the young, the old, the weird. It is at those times that you realize, yes, sadly, appearance may truly have changed the outcome.

But not this time. The distinctiveness of the voice that each judge hears behind them is the only basis for their choice.

We, too, hear a voice…..

Our God is speaking to us every day. At times, it is through His Word. Other times, through nature. And still other times, through His people. But He is speaking. And He has something to say to us. The problem lies with the  many “voices” also vying for our attention – friends, family, children, responsibilities, TV. Often it is the voice that speaks that loudest that gets our attention. Yet, much like in The Voice, we need to sift through & listen solely for The Voice of distinction. The Voice of Truth.

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21 NIV).

So, Who will you turn your chair for?
