The famous red ruby slippers worn by Dorothy in the movie, “The Wizard Of Oz”. I loved that movie when I was kid. Who didn’t? We all wanted a pair of those shoes to click & get home at times. All Dorothy had to do was click three times & say, “There’s no place like home! There’s no place like home!” & she would find herself home – where she was safe & loved.

Let’s face it.

We all find ourselves, at some point, having a day that we wished was going in a different direction. We wish our day could be…

less stressful

less anxious

less fearful

less painful

less doubt filled.

If we could click our heels, like Dorothy, we would be whisked to a place that was filled with….

joy, peace, laughter, perfection, relaxation & calm.

I believe we feel this way because God has created us with eternity set in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Scripture goes so far as to even call us “aliens & strangers in the world” (1 Peter 2:11 NIV). We long for things to be the way that God originally intended. We long to click those red ruby slippers & for all to be well. To be right.

Dorothy expressed it this way:

Someplace where there isn’t any trouble… [tossing a piece of her cruller to Toto] …do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be. It’s not a place you can get to by a boat or train. It’s far, far away… behind the moon… beyond the rain.

And she was right. There is a place.

For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.” (Hebrews 13:14 NLT).

We get a glimpse of our home every now & then as we stay close to the heart of God. If we would only allow that glimpse to keep us close to Him at all times, in every way.

One day, like Dorothy, we will then exclaim:

Oh, but anyway, Toto, we’re home ”“ home! And this is my room ”“ and you’re all here ”“ and I’m not going to leave here ever, ever again, because I love you all! And… oh, Auntie Em, there’s no place like home!
