I read this quote just now:

Major Ian Thomas, English author and founder of a worldwide missionary fellowship, once wrote, “Which of these things in the life of Jesus is more spiritual?  When Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount? When He raised Lazarus from the dead? When He washed His disciples’ feet? Or when He spat on the ground and made clay to anoint the blind man’s eyes? None was more spiritual than the other. Jesus did not divide His life up into little segments of spirituality. He was simply available to do whatever His Father willed.” The will of God is not a road map. It is a relationship! You just simply set yourself apart to do the will of God.

It brought to mind what the Psalmist David wrote:

“Sacrifice & offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced, burnt offerings & sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, “Here I am am, I have come – it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, O my God; you law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:6-8 NIV).

David’s ears had been cleared of any obstruction preventing him from hearing God. He understood that God desires that we hear Him, be in relationship with Him & obey Him more than He desires the things we that we do for Him. Activity, even when good & charitable, does not equal obedience. God desires that we do His will & not our own, even in the way we serve Him.

May we say, like David, “Here I am, I have come” & do His will alone.
