the-power-of-words

Here is a familiar verse to ponder today:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21 ESV).

The average person speaks about 25,000 words daily. I am thinking the question becomes……

What TYPE of words are coming from our mouths? We do not seem to have an issue hitting our quota for the day:) It is a matter of the words used in order to reach our quota.

We can speak words to others that damage for life. If we are not careful about what we say, how we say it & when we say it, we can be a detriment to the growth of a person. We can deaden their personality, sap them of all life.

We can also speak words that bring life. These are words of edification. These words encourage & recognize the promises of God & His Word & their effect on the life of another person. They are words that celebrate the uniqueness of a person & all that God created them to be.

Our words have power. They either have the power of life or of death. But one way or the other, they have power:

  • The power of life. This denotes like fresh running water. Refreshing. Sustaining life.
  • The power of death. This is like a deadly sickness or plague. There is no recovery. These are destructive.

Our words are powerful. And our words do matter. Let’s determine to speak 25,000 words of life today!
