Life is fleeting. We all know that. All you need to do is take a quick look at your adult children & you are quickly reminded of how the years have flown by. Sure when you are in the throes of diapers, feedings, car pools & being a taxi driver, you may think that they will never be grown.

And then it happens.

It is then that reality sinks in. Perhaps you knew life was precious but now YOU KNOW!

Psalm 144:4 tells us, “Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.”

The Holman Old Testament Commentary says this about that verse:

Man is like a breath, a vapor, that appears for a moment & then disappears. His days are flickering, without stability, empty, and hollow like a fleeting shadow.”

We know when we blow a breath into cold air that it is visible for only a short time. Shadows will shift & be gone if the light changes. And so it is with life, our days are numbered.

Author Jennie Allen expressed her desire, which so is my desire as well:

I want my one little breath to feel more like a mighty gust of wind.

I want my life to matter. To make a difference. To be a display of God’s love. To fulfill the purposes He has for me. To bring Him glory.

So let’s get on with it!

I may never look at wind gusting quite the same again!
