Last night Lisa, Peter & the girls stopped by after running some errands. They were here but a few minutes when this conversation took place:

Lisa: “Sophia, where is your headband?”

Sophia: {Feels her head & then shrugs her shoulders as if to say, “I don’t know.}

After a few minutes….

Lisa: “I know where it is – you left it at Babies-R-Us.”

The tears begin to flow as Sophia cries for her now lost Cinderella headband. Her favorite headband of all.

Lisa & I head out to Target & Wal-Mart to see if we could find a replacement, to no avail. We return empty handed. The tears are now once again rolling as Sophia laments her lost headband.

Peter takes charge. He gets Sophia back into her coat, Jocelyn into her car seat & says, “Let’s go!”

He brings everyone home & heads back to Babies-R-Us, determined to find it & end his firstborn’s sorrow.

One might say, “Are you kidding?”

I kid you not.

Peter’s actions have so displayed the love of a father for his children. I was reminded of another Father…..

So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ”˜Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’

(Luke 15:1-6 NLT)

Our Father loves the one so much that it does not matter that He has ninety nine others. He goes after the one. The lost matter to Him. His joy derives from the discovery of His lost one. The Father goes to great lengths to find the one.

When Peter went to Babies-R-Us & found the headband, LIsa immediately texted me a picture of the found headband. My response?

“Tell Peter I owe him a celebration dance!”

You see, Sophia & I have a celebration dance that she & I do together when something makes us happy or we have had a good time. It has become our way of expressing our joy in the day.

Peter is a great father. Has been from the get “Go!”. But here’s the deal…..last night he did a great thing – he beautifully displayed the heart of the Father to Sophia. Sophia will always remember the night her dad drove back to the store in search for her special headband. She will always remember she woke up in the morning & there it was, waiting for her. All because of the heart of her father. And yes, she would have her headband back. But more so, she will have a portrayal of her God, The Father towards her which she will remember always.

So yeah, Peter, I owe you a celebration dance!
