Ever had a morning that just flat out revealed some ugliness in you that still needs to be uprooted? Surely I cannot be the only one.
Hello, Monday morning!
You jolted me wide awake & aware of what yet lies within me.
The thing is that once the Holy Spirit reveals it to us, we are faced with the choice to either surface it fully & repent or continue on, pretending it isn’t there & we are OK. The questions then raised are:
- Who wants to live a life of pretense? and
- Why would we want to live a life of pretense?
- Why wear the mask at all?
Which brings me to David. King David…….
Maybe the biggest sinner recorded in the Bible. Or at least he gives Paul a run for his money š Let’s see, David’s list of sins includes: adulterer, murderer, liar, thief, idleness to name the obvious ones. Yet David is also recorded as being “a man after God’s own heart.” (see Acts 13:22).
David had a heart that came clean before His God. He knew to repent.
Repentance, a deep sorrow or acknowledge of wrongdoing. But it is even more than that. It is the acknowledgement that I have offended God. And David knew that:
“Against you, you only, have I sinned & done what is evil in our sight.” (Psalm 51:4 NIV84).
David knew that pretense was a lesson in futility as our God sees & knows it all. Our souls are bare before the God of the universe.
Each. One. Of. Our. Souls.
Bare.
In the still & dark of the morning, I faced a choice – confession or pretense. It was an easy choice as I do not do well with pretense. Then the sun came up & all was well –
with the day,
with my God,
with my soul.
I just was thinking about this in the context of how it was shown to me that before the fall, in that tiny period of time when humans were sinless outside of Christ’s blood, Adam and Eve were “naked and not ashamed”. And how on a spiritual level this means so very much more than just they weren’t wearing clothes, but has to do with how sin made them hide from God because they didn’t want to be bare in front of Him.

Great reminder..Repentance is such an important aspect in our relationship with the Lord and with others. But it’s so much easier to wear masks. Bless you.
