Thinking today on this portion of Scripture:

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

(Proverbs 18:21 NIV)

I love fruit. And yet, not all fruit is created equally 🙂 Let’s face it – some fruits just taste better than others. Not all apples taste the same. Some can be sweet & crunchy & delightful. Others can be dry, pasty & tasteless. So when I bite into a piece of fruit, I am hoping for the best.

And so it should be with my words. Speech is a powerful tool. It is only as I choose my words carefully that they will be fruitful. My words can be a destructive force that cuts down everyone & everything that is in my path. Or my words can be life & health giving causing everyone I come into contact with to feel a little more cared for. The choice is mine. And here is the thing…..

Yes, my words will have an effect one way or the other on those around me. But the reality is, they will also have an effect on me.

If I speak words that are hurtful & bring death to others, I too, will be eating my own words. I will be ingesting my own poison. As I speak words of life to others, I will get to enjoy the sweet fruit of my words. I will put my head down at night knowing that I have blessed. The Message puts it this way:

Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit””you choose.

So….what will you be serving today? The choice is all up to you.
