I listen to so many things all day long. The voices of children. Calliou. Sophia the First. SPORTS. Hockey in particular of late 🙂 The sounds of cars going by in the street. The laughter of children. The trash getting collected from the curb. Lawn mowers.
So many sounds. A cacophony. The meaningless mix of sounds from everywhere somehow comprising the tune of the day.
There are times at the end of the day, when sleep has taken over the house, that I listen to the quiet. The floors creaking. The hum of the refrigerator. The nothingness.
This morning, as I sit in the yet dark of the morning, I listen. I hear the sound of drenching rains hitting the sky lights in our family room. It is steadily coming down. At this moment, it is a comforting sound as I am inside safe & dry.
And if I truly pay attention, I can hear it.
If my ears listen, it is then I hear it. The still small voice….
Don’t be afraid! For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (Zephaniah 3:17 NLT)
