White noise: a random signal made by a flat, constant sound or pitch. The idea is to have a steady sound so that the brain cannot pick out one sound in particular, like a voice.
Both my granddaughters have been good sleepers. As long as I set up the right environment for them, they go in easily & take good naps. The environment must include one of these in each bedroom….And these…..
               Â
Yes, both girls need a sound machine & their two blankets. Both need the fuzzy side of their blankets not the bumpy side. And try switching them & they each know.
Both of my granddaughters sleep soundly with the white noise background & their blankets. As the sound machine blocks out all other sounds & their blankets provide comfort & security, they fall peaceably asleep. It is a routine that has worked excellent for naps & bedtimes.
But what about with my relationship with God? How does white noise work then?
Stop worrying long enough to hear My voice. I speak softly to you, in the depths of your being. Your mind shuttles back and forth, hither and yon, weaving webs of anxious confusion. As My thoughts rise up within you, they become entangled in those sticky webs of worry. Thus, My voice is muffled, and you hear only “white noise”.
Jesus Calling, page 200
We need to find time alone with God each day. Time when we bask in the silence & let Him speak to us. Him only. No other voices. No other noise. We cannot let the white noise of this world lull us so that we are immune to His voice. We cannot permit His voice to be drowned out.
In Deuteronomy 30, we are told exactly why this was important to God’s people then & to us today:
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life.
(verses 19, 20 NIV84)
Listening to His voice is important for this very reason -Â HE IS YOUR LIFE.Â
He is my life. He is yours.
And both we & our children will live fruitful lives as we listen.

“And both we & our children will live fruitful lives as we listen.” Yes! This is so true and listening is something I have to work on. I LOVE Jesus Calling…thank you for this reminder. I came over from Hear it on Sunday.
So glad that you visited! May He give us both ears to hear today 🙂
Oh! I love love love this! (My whole family sleep with sound machines! They are the first item listed on our vacation packing list! 😉 )
Some days it’s not easy to find quiet time, especially with little ones, but it is OH so worth it!
Thanks for sharing your words with us!
LOL, love that this is among the 1st things packed 🙂
May we find some quiet today.
Thanks for the visit,
Joanne
I wuv dose wittle bwankies! They look so cozy and remind me of when my boys were cuddly 🙂
Love this analogy, Mary. Worry and busy-ness is such the white noise in my relationship with God. So thankful for the times of slowing.
I know both have often been the white noise in my relationship as well. May we be all ears 🙂 So glad you stopped here!
great post babe…we need a sound machine too…though we love listening to the mountain stream…something so peaceful about it…bringing nature and peace into our nights. Dino has all of his stuffed animals with him at night…but knows God is watching over them all.
Oh, I would love listening to the mountain stream any time over a sound machine 🙂 Thanks for visiting back! Blessings on you & Dino!
