** This is a repost of a post from last summer. ..with a few changes.

For the last three years, Sophia has swung on this:

She has enjoyed & loved it. As she swings, we play, ā€œI Spy With My Little Eyesā€Ā. Last week Poppy & I bought her this:

She loved it & has repeatedly told us that she loves her playground.

This morning I watched her for a few hours. We played on the swingset for quite some time & then she askedā€¦

ā€œMimi, can we go swing on the red swing?ā€Ā

Are you serious? We bought the new swing set as she had grown too big for the red swing. Yet this is where we returned so we could play, ā€œI Spyā€Ā.

I have thought about this all afternoon.

Am I really that different from Sophia? Probably not.

How often do I default back to that which is comfortable, known & safe?

How often have I excused myself by saying,

ā€œIt is just the way I am.ā€Ā

ā€œItā€™s the way it has always been.ā€Ā

ā€œThat will never change.ā€Ā

ā€œIt is what I am comfortable with.ā€Ā

How grateful I am that God does indeed change me. I am grateful that even when I do default to old ways, He gives me opportunity to start anew. Habits may die hard but in & through Christ, they can DIE! And that is the point. We can change.

ā€œTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!ā€Ā 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV).
