{{Today I am linked with Lisa Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday. Here is how it works…. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. Equals a great time.}}

This week’s word….

MERCY…..

I should have known it would be the word this week. After all, the (in)Mercy project launched this week. Yesterday I had been humming the words to an old hymn. Have you ever noticed that the words to those hymns stay buried deep within our hearts and seem to surface at varied times throughout our lives. The words, repeatedly, going through my head….

Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty at Calvary.

It is at the Cross that I found mercy. Mercy that I did not deserve. Truly. And yet, He offered it to me, freely and without abandon. His mercy was great. And it is great because I draw on it every. single. day. Each day He extends His mercy towards me and I find liberty, freedom to continue living my life in the middle of His blessings that I so do not deserve.

Mercy, as defined by dictionary.com (and yes, I had to look it up yesterday) ….. “compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one’s power”.

Mercy can be given to anyone within my power. Perhaps even when it is within my power to give.

In offering to work on this Mercy House project, I am learning about mercy. Something new about mercy. I have been shown mercy so that I might extend mercy. Mercy is that gift that keeps on giving. I am reminded of the servant that owes his master a large sum of money and is unable to pay it back. The servant begs for time to be given him to pay it back so as to avoid jail. The master shows mercy and cancels the debt. Wipes it clean. Yet that very same servant, owed a small pittance, demands to be paid back from a fellow servant & has him thrown into jail. (Matthew 18)

No mercy.

I do not want to be like that servant. I want to give mercy because I have been given much mercy.

What a beautiful undertaking (in)Mercy. May we give mercy as it is in our power to give.
