Life began to happen and the things that I had hoped to do sort of slid to the back burner. I did not realize they had. It never bothered me much as I truly loved my life.

Every once in a while those hopes, really my dreams, would surface and nag at me a little. At those times, I would tell myself,

  • someday
  • when the kids grow up
  • when the kids finish college
  • when the bills are paid up

And any hopes of doing anything would once again slide to the back burner. I am learning that those dreams may be on my back burner but never on God’s. He has a way of bringing them to the fore front.

Recently I read this definition by Holley Gerth:

God-sized dream = a desire in your heart for more of what God has for you.

I love that!

When our desires are solely for more of what God has for you, of which He has planned for you, then you are in the right position for a God-sized dream. And here is what I am realizing…

Much the way God does not push Himself into your life but waits for us to choose Him or invite Him in, our dreams in life operate much the same. They won’t push their way into your life. They won’t scream louder than every other dream. They wait. They wait patiently knowing that we won’t be satisfied until we desire more of what God has for us. We won’t find fulfillment in life until we are living the dream that He has for us.

A dream can be defined as “something imagined.” Something thought up.

We tend to think it is we ourselves who have the dreams. But I am truly beginning to wonder if our dreams, those hopes and aspirations we hold in our hearts, are they not truly God’s dreams for us.  Maybe they were not ever our dreams to begin with. Perhaps they are God-given dreams that come to fruition in our lives as we align our desires with His.

There is no one that has more creativity, more imagination than our God. Paul tell us:

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. (1 Corinthians 2:9, NLT).

We should word it this way….

We will never be able to outdream God. He is the dream originator.

He holds my dreams.
