As spring the winter does succeed,
And leaves the naked trees do dress,
The earth all black is clothed in green;
At sunshine each their joy express.
My sun’s returned with healing wings.
My soul and body do rejoice;
My heart exults and praises sings
To You who heard my wailing voice.
My winter’s past, my storms are gone,
And former clouds now seem all fled;
But, if they must eclipse again,
I’ll run where I was amply fed.
I have a shelter from the storm,
A shadow from the fainting heat;
I have access unto Your throne
You who are God so wondrous great.(a prayer of Anne Bradstreet)
“But you are a tower of refuge to the poor, O Lord, a tower of refuge to the needy in distress. You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat.” (Isaiah 25:4, NLT)
Today I am linking with …. Spiritual Sundays and Sunday Stillness and Still Saturday and Scripture & A Snapshot and Social Media Sun. and Make My Saturday Sweet and Heart Reflected and The Sunday Community .
That’s a precious prayer! Thank you for sharing.
Anne Bradstreet penned such beautiful words. I am so comforted by the thought of God being a refuge from the storms of life. His promises become more precious with each passing day. Thank you for sharing this.
Love the writings of Anne Bradstreet and this post is quite beautiful!
Dear Joanne
And I just thought you are a real poet when I saw it was wrirren by another ladyM Joanne, you should try writing poetry for you write very well, my friend!
Blessings XX
Mia
That is a nice poem. It is iambic, with few flaws, and few write like that nowadays. And the message is great. I have seen a couple of ladies linking to “Spiritual Sundays” occupied with the same thing today. Mastery is indeed a strength when one can say “I’ll run where I was amply fed” – being to God.
By the way, your blog is really beautiful. But I do not see your name anywhere.
Thank you for stopping here today. May we always run to God, the only One Whom can only feed & satisfy us.
Thank you, Mia. I have never tried writing poetry. As a matter of fact, the thought never crossed my mind although I so love reading it. You are most encouraging!
I love Anne Bradstreet’s poems – she was able to keep a gentle, quiet heart of love for the Lord even in the middle of the harsh Puritan thinking. I’m partial, too, because she is my eighth great grandmother, descended through the line from her youngest son. I am grateful for her, for the rich words she passed on to us. Thanks for sharing this.
What an amazing heritage! Thank you for sharing that with me.
Joanne…just what I needed today. Thank you!
Glad that it spoke to you.
Love this 🙂
Very nice poem and photo. Thank you for linking to my blog….great meeting you.
