We all have something we are meant to do, to fulfill in our lifetime. For each of us, the work is different and may vary. Even when two of us do the very same thing, it remains original to us. It becomes personal to us. It is much the same as no two fingerprints are exactly alike although we all have fingers. There are no two snowflakes exact although they are snow. So it is with what each of us do, it is individual to us. Yet, there are times we hold back.
It may be due to insecurity. Or fear. Perhaps it is disbelief. But we hold back. We never realize in holding back we are hurting ourselves and those around us……
You shame the angels who watch over you and you spite the Almighty, who created you and only you with your unique gifts, for the sole purpose of nudging the human race one millimeter farther along its path back to God. (The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, page 165)
Let that sink in. When we struggle with our Creator, we are much like the clay telling the Potter what He is to form. The Potter knows what He needs to do with the lump of clay.
Each of us, as we use our gifts, nudge others along in their walk with God. Through our life, they see moments which reflect the truth, Someone bigger than us is directing everything in life. Others can catch a glimpse of the One Who gives our life meaning as we go about our day. It all matters …..
the doctor who restores health,
the teacher who imparts learning and wonder to her students,
the social worker who makes life a little more manageable for the less fortunate,
the minister who prays with those who are hurting,
the coach who challenges and motivates his players to keep on,
the mom who changes diaper after diaper and walks the floors with her baby until her arms feel like they will drop,
the friend who sits and cries with her friend,
the musician who writes songs,
the job developer who places the disabled in a position,
the mechanic who fixes a car to save someone a bill.
See, it all matters. What we do each day has an effect on someone else. We all matter to someone, to others. They get to see Him in us, in what we do and how we do it.
Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It’s a gift to the world and every being in it. Don’t cheat us of your contribution. Give us what you’ve got. (Steven Pressfield, The War of Art, page 165)
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:
“But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.” (verses 18-21, NLT)
We each are needed. We are all a very vital part.
We live each day creatively so it is all a creative work. Each day, a fresh canvas and in living it out, we are creating a part of God’s bigger story. The question truly becomes,
“What will we make of today?”
Live so your life reflects Him creatively.

Dear Joanne
Oh, this is so true! And even the “unimportant” small things like a smile to another, can just brighten up their whole day. Someone once said that we might be the only Bibles some people will ever read in their lives.

Mia, I have heard that statement as well. May our lives read well, my friend!
Such good thoughts, Joanne. We are all a unique part of the Body of Christ. It’s so important to use our gifts.
I am beginning to embrace that all we do each day is a creative work He has set out for us to do. May we represent Him well. Thank you for taking the time to visit today!
I really needed to be reminded of this, Joanne. Thanks so much for a timely and wise post, my friend!
