I recently read Wounded By God’s People by Anne Graham Lotz in which she included this prayer:
Lord, high and holy, meek and lowly,
Thou has brought me to the valley of vision,
Where I live in the depths but see Thee in the heights;
Hemmed in by mountains of sin I behold Thy glory.Let me learn by paradox
That the way down is the way up,
That to be low is to be high,
That the broken heart is the healed heart,
That the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit,
That the repenting soul is the victorious soul,
That to have nothing is to possess all,
That to bear the cross is to wear the crown,
That to give is to receive,
That the valley is the place of vision.Lord, in the daytime stars can be seen from deepest wells,
And the deeper the wells the brighter Thy stars shine;
Let me find Thy light in my darkness,
Thy life in my death,
Thy joy in my sorrow,
Thy grace in my sin,
Thy riches in my poverty,
Thy glory in my valley.(as quoted in her book on page 190)
“Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me. So the well was named Beer-lahai-roi (which means “well of the Living One who sees me”).” (Genesis 16:13-14,NLT)
He sees you too!
Today I am joining …. The Sunday Community and Spiritual Sundays and Sunday Stillness and Still Saturday and Scripture & A Snapshot .
I love reading the paradoxes of our faith… our relationship with God. People outside the faith just don’t and can’t understand…. spiritually discerned. I don’t mind walking in the dark because the dark is light to HIM.
Thank you, Jo.
God bless you and yours.
Mare
As hard as it is, the paradoxes is what makes our walk with God so precious. So glad you shared your thoughts, Mare!
Hi Joanne! It’s so true that down is up with the Lord. So hard to understand sometimes…especially in times of waiting, and not understanding. Such a beautiful prayer. I can see why you’d want to share it.
Thank you!
Ceil
It is very hard to understand & to experience. Yet in hindsight, those times are viewed as being so precious & held dear in our hearts. Yes, I had to share the prayer 🙂
Have a blessed week, Ceil!
Joanne….that’s all we really want isn’t it? To be seen and known of him. These are gorgeous words – I copied them in my journal. Thanks.
I am grateful the words spoke to you as well!
I have not read this book yet, and need to. take care
It was truly a wonderful book. You will be blessed by reading it.
