There are those times in which life just doesn’t turn out the way we anticipated. Disappointment – we have all faced it in life. Perhaps in different circumstances. Perhaps more than once.
It can come wrapped in many ways, throughout out livesĆĀ ….
- not making a team
- just missing honor roll
- a college rejection letter
- a missed opportunity
- a broken relationship
- a pink slip
- a diagnosis
What does one do at those times when it seems like we have hit a brick wall, the end has come, the bottom has fallen out?
I remember a saying, which was quite popular when I was kid … “When life hands you lemons, make a lemonade.” For some reason, I always cringed when I heard it. I actually hated the saying, if I may be completely honest. It seemed like everyone was coining it and using it and selling it.
So what does one do?
Today I am remembering that our God has no end. No end to His ability or His capability. There is nothing which He is unable to do.
He creates out of nothing. Provides much from little.
The desert you may find yourself in today, may just be more than what is meeting the eye. It may be more than void and empty. Listen:
- “Even the wilderness and the desert will be glad in those days. The wasteland will rejoice and blossom with spring crocuses. Yes, there will be an abundance of flowers and singing and joy! There the Lord will display his glory, the splendor of our God.” (Isaiah 35:1-2, NLT)
- After stating past deeds which He has done, God says, “But forget all that – it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a way through the wilderness. I will create rivers in dry wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19, NLT)
- In the psalms, the author writes that God can change rivers into desert and fruitful land into a wasteland due to the wrong of those living there. We are also told this …. “But he also turns deserts into pools of water, the dry land into springs of water. He brings the hungry to settle there and to build their cities. They sow their fields, plant their vineyards, and harvest bumper crops. How he blesses them!” (Psalm 107: 33-38, NLT)
So what does one do?
Trust the God Who is able … to make deserts bloom, create rivers in the middle of a wasteland, make a way when there is no way. As a matter of fact, there is no limit to His possibilities.
It’s not the end.
It’s a new beginning.

We so need to be reminded of Who our God is & all that He is able to do. May you be encouraged today by Him!
He certainly is the One we can trust. He always has the better plan for our life. We just don’t always see it right away. Stopping in from Winsome Wed. Link up.
Kim, may we continue to trust Him whether we see His activity or not. He is always at work. Have a blessed Wed.!
Your post spoke to my heart today. I’m in a wilderness and like the Israelites in the desert I am forgetting what He has rescued me from! I spent some time in prayer over it this morning. I have been led to John 15 about God pruning that which does not bear fruit. I believe He’s doing that now and I’m even having to find a new Church. It’s hard but I know He is able and in charge.
Laura, let me say first I am sorry you are finding yourself to be in the wilderness. It is not an enjoyable place to be. And you are so right, we tend to forget all that He has already done in our lives when there. I am praying that the Lord would bring that oasis in the desert into your life. You know the place! You’ve seen it in cartoons š That cool spring of water, right in the middle of all the sand & heat & vast emptiness – which refreshes & quenches our thirst, bringing clarity to your mind. He can be that to us! May He guide your decisions & steps if it is to be a new church. Praying for you today!
Joanne,
Yes. Excellent verses. I also love Hosea 2:14… being lead into a desert/wilderness by God himself for the purpose of being spoken tenderly to.
Awesome.
Yes and it is in that very place that He speaks to us tenderly and brings hope. Grateful you reminded me of this verse!
Beautiful! Love this! Super inspiring to me today. The possibilities are endless in Him! š
When I come here Joanne it really is such encouragement to spend more and more time in His Word. I simply love the wisdom you share from what God has revealed to you through His Word. You inspire me to know Him more. THANK YOU. Love you and all you share. Much love. xoxo
I am humbled and grateful you find encouragement here, Beth. That means so much to me. You have no idea. May we always spur each other on to knowing Him more deeply. Much love to you!
Wonderful words, Joanne! So encouraging!
I just read that verse in Isaiah about crocuses last week. It really touched me because I was remember how our winter had been so long and hard and the crocus just burst out, almost in joyful praise!
Elizabeth, thank you for reminding me of the long winter as it reminded me of how I looked for those early spring buds to come forth. You gently reminded me to keep looking to Him. Bless you!
Yes, this…”Today I am remembering that our God has no end. No end to His ability or His capability. There is nothing which He is unable to do.”:)
Katie, may we hold onto the truth that our God is able!
