{{Today is Friday!!! It is the day I link with Lisa Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday. Here is how it works…. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. We all write on the same word.})
And today’s word is …. Messenger.
Each of us are messengers, whether we realize it or not. Even if we think we have nothing to say, we each have a message and deliver a message.
All day long.
To everyone around us.
They can be positive or negative, a whole host of messages ….
- “You are so special.”
- “You’re such a good little girl (or boy).”
- “You can’t do anything right.”
- “You are my best friend.”
- “You are worthless.”
- “You are such a talented person.”
- “I love you.”
- “You are valued.”
Our facial expressions, our body gestures, our tone of voices, our inflections – each of those deliver messages – 24/7.
And that makes each of us a messenger.
The question becomes for each of us – – –
What is the message I want to be known for delivering?
This past week, I have been reading in 1 Thessalonians. So funny the word prompt would be “messenger” as this Scripture quickly came back to mind.
Paul knew he was a messenger, as well as those he ministered with and writes:
For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good news. (1 Thessalonians 2:4, NLT)
And then he goes on to state why he was sending Timothy to them:
We sent him to strengthen you, to encourage you in your faith, and to keep you from being shaken by the troubles you were going through.
(1 Thessalonians 3:2-3, NLT)
They were messengers and the message they brought did just that to those they encountered.
They strengthened. They encouraged. They kept others from being shaken.
This is the messenger I want to be. Every day. To those around me.
May we remember, “For we speak as messengers.”

Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Fellowship Fri. and Everyday Jesus and Faith Filled Fri. and Friendship Fri. and Essential Fri. .
Amen. That’s the kind of messenger I want to be too.
This reminds me of Rachel Wojo’s post from yesterday about the power of words. The things we say to people (especially our children) carry strong messages that can either build up or tear down. I want to be known for delivering the message of Christ and His redemption.
Me too, Laura, me too!
Me too!! Everyone we come in contact with every single day “listens” to our message. I pray I am delivering it correctly! Good stuff, Joanne!
Nanette, to deliver it correctly – just as important as the words we use. Thank you for sharing with me!
I love this post about being a messenger. Thank you! 🙂
Grateful you visited!
You are welcome!
This is so good! “What is the message I want to be known for delivering?” A great focus for me today. 1 Thessalonians is perfect to go along with being a messenger. Thank you for this today.
You said it, Sister! This reminds me of Toby Mac’s song “Speak Life.” Are we being messengers of life to others? Love your thoughts and thanks for sharing them over at #EverydayJesus.
I love that song, Sharita! Glad to be joining you. It is such a great linkup!
Thanks for your message today! I love the question you’ve given us to ponder. Glad to find your blog today. FMF
It was a question I had been asking myself all week. So glad you visited me!
What is the message I want to be known for delivering? What an awesome question for all of us to ponder! Great post, as always, Joanne.
It is a question I had been asking myself all week, Holly. Grateful for you!

I am studying I & II Thessalonians.
Thank you for the insight.
I am grateful that it gave you insight into your reading. And for your visit! Blessings!
