Lately I’ve been thinking about Mr. Rogers. Yes, THE Mr. Rogers. With his gentle voice, soft demeanor, his sweaters and puppets, he drew us all into his imaginary world.

He taught lessons on kindness and made us all hope to become better people. He once said:

“The real issue in life is not how many blessings we have, but what we do with our blessings. Some people have many blessings and hoard them. Some have few and give everything away.”

Hoarding, according to dictionary.com, is “to accumulate in a carefully guarded place for future use”.ƂĀ  But you probably already knew the definition. Even on television, you will find a number of programs about hoarding and hoarders.

They tend to have more than they know what to do with. They cannot even use it all for themselves. The piles become more of a problem than a blessing. If anything, the stuff is suffocating the life right out of them as it overwhelms them.

On the flip side, you will never find a more joyous person than a generous person. They give without holding back. No regrets. The only thought they have is to bless others. To ease discomfort. To bring a smile to someone’s face. The giving itself becomes the blessing to them.

Here’s the thing about generosity …

“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full – pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” (Luke 6:38, NLT)

The more mercy you give, the more mercy you’ll receive.

The more love you pour out, the more love that is returned.

The more you offer forgiveness, the more you will be forgiven.

Perhaps it is time we not be stingy. I’m thinking it may be time to back a big old dump truck in and bless someone with a whole lot of mercy and goodness and love. For the bottom line to all of this truly is –

You will never be able to out give our God.

No way.

No how.

I dare you to try!
