I read these words from my devotional ….
Slumbering souls take for granted life and all its blessings.
Slumbering souls tend to be overly focused on negative things.(from Jesus Lives, page 96)
… and have been mulling these sentences over for a few days. Slumbering, according to dictionary.com, is “to be in a state of inactivity or negligence.”
Slumbering souls neglect to recognize all the blessings in life, within their very own life. They magnify the negative until it appears larger than life.
Perhaps that’s why I want to be awake. Maybe that’s why I love Awake My Soul and play it blasting loud. Perhaps its because the portion of Scripture about the dry bones always speaks to me. Maybe it’s because I can still remember a sermon I heard in church many years ago, when this Scripture came alive to me.
Or maybe it’s simply… I want to be awake to Him. I’m hoping, above all else, that’s what it is.
It is as we listen to the word of the Lord that our dry souls come to life. We come to life as He speaks to us. In Ezekiel 37, not only did the valley of dry bones come back together and to life but “They all came to life and stood on their feet – a great army.” (verse 10, NLT). When He speaks His Word into our hearts and we listen, truly listen, life is breathed into us, His life. We stand on our feet and we become part of a great army, able to fight against the forces which seek to bring us down.
When we’re awake to Him, my devotional continues … “The more fully you enjoy Me, the more capacity you have to appreciate the blessings I shower upon you. As you delight in Me, I am free to bless you bountifully.”
I want to be awake in Him and to Him.
“Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” (Ephesians 5:14, NLT)
May we live in the full light of Christ. It is in keeping Him as our delight that we find the greatest gifts in our lives.

Today I am joining … Testimony Tuesday and Titus 2 Tues. and Teaching What is Good and Titus 2sday .
I also want to go through life fully awake and ready for the light of Jesus. I don;t want to just go through the motions and not be fully present. This is a great reminder as we move into winter which automatically makes me think of a slumbering season-hibernation and nesting! Have a blessed day!
Mary, great point that winter naturally beckons us to bunker down. May we stay fully awake & engaged, even through these colder months. Have a great day!
Love this! especially as I sit here awake so early in the morning. I love how when my alarm goes off insanely early to write, I get up almost joyfully knowing I get to spend some quiet time with God.
Kathryn, me too. I love the early, dark & quiet mornings. My favorite time of day! I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow morning 🙂
I was listening to Awakening! by Chris Tomlin while surfing Holly’s blog this morning…and I saw your title. 🙂 Love it. ♥
So funny, Nannette 🙂 God is calling us to be awakened. Blessings today!
Once again our thoughts run on the same path, Joanne. Awakening our souls and reclaiming our redemption go hand in hand. I want to live that awakened life so that I don’t miss one precious moment of this life and His glory! Thanks for linking up to Testimony Tuesday.
I do not want to miss out either, Holly! May we stay awakened & reclaimed! Blessings on your day!
“It is as we listen to the word of the Lord that our dry souls come to life. We come to life as He speaks to us.” Preach it sister! (P.S. I love that song too.) Thanks for being so encouraging to my soul today. xoxo Nicki
Grateful you found encouragement, Nicki. May life continue to flow each & every day, keeping our souls alive in Him & to Him!
