Comparison is a killer. If you have been around the internet in the last year, you have seen and read plenty on the topic. And all of it, true and worth reading.

Comparison will kill a relationship, or a friendship, quicker than one can imagine. It is also capable of killing a dream before it even gets out of your thoughts.

Comparison, as defined by dictionary.com (and some Old World Latin) means “to liken”. In comparing ourselves to others, we look to see how we are like them, how we measure up to them. The result is usually feelings which lead to jealousy or a sense of inadequacy. Most times, the feelings which stem from comparison are not beneficial to our growth.

Can I share with you the only comparison that is worth making?

“I once thought these things [status, possessions, education] were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ my Lord.” (Philippians 3:7-8a, NLT)

If the only comparisons we permit ourselves to make is to liken everything to Christ, then everything else in life will pale. All else is worthless, of no use, basically good for nothing, apart from Him.

As everything in our eyes and estimation becomes garbage, we then see the true and full worth of all we gain in Christ …

“I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead.” (verse 9b-10a, NLT)

So if comparison is trying to lure you in, may you remember this today:

There is only one comparison worth making!
