Love. We all want it in our lives. We long to feel love, be loved and give love.

Some people are in our lives and loving them comes easily. Others — well, not so much. They can come as a challenge, if we’re flat out honest.

And yet, Jesus calls us to love:

  • “And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.” (1 John 4:21, NIV)
  • “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.” (1 Peter 3:8, NIV)
  • “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” (Romans 12:10, NIV)
  • “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34, NIV)

We can have trouble with this whole concept of loving others. We want it boxed up nice and neat, easy for us to understand. And even easier for us to do. But it doesn’t come packaged in “easy”. Even Piglet needed some help figuring out love ….

Love, it surely can put us in such a quandary. There is only one way we are going to love those we find challenging. We are going to need to ask for God’s help ….

  1. Ask Him to make a deposit of love into your heart. “… God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has give us.” (Romans 5:5). With the help of His Spirit residing inside of us, He makes it possible to love those we think.
  2. Ask Him to love through us. “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.” (1 John 4:7, NIV). God can give us His love for others so that we love with His love and in His power, not our own.

Pooh may have been onto something. You don’t spell love. You feel it. And you keep asking for His help until you feel it.

How do you spell love?

Jesus.
