Today is here. The sun has rose. It’s a new day.  I have a problem which perhaps you also share. Sometimes when I wake up, I am thinking about another day. At times, I think about yesterday and all that it held. Other times, I find myself looking towards tomorrow and worrying about what it will hold.

So exactly what is the problem with this?

  • God wants me to rejoice in today. “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24, NLT)
  • I will miss what He is doing. “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? (Isaiah 43:19, NLT)
  • Today is a fresh start. “Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (Lamentations 3:23, NLT)
  • Today will hold exactly what I need. “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Luke 11:3,NLT)

I cannot change that which occurred yesterday. And I cannot anticipate what tomorrow will bring. Yesterday and tomorrow will only rob me of all God has in store for me today. I need to live in the twenty four hour segment of time which is before me.

God desires for me to live today. To rejoice in all this day holds for me. I must live with eyes open to all He is doing in this moment. He wants me to be thankful for His provision and what He puts before me now. I am not to long for what I had yesterday. Nor am I to whine about what is before me wishing for what tomorrow may bring. I am to give thanks for today and face the day intentionally, making the most of it.

I’m making today my favorite day!
