There’s been a lot on my mind lately. Much to sort through, to keep organized, to seek answers for and to understand.

I said to my husband the other night, “I’m tired” and yet it wasn’t a physical tiredness but one of the mind and emotions. This sort of tired is more than the physical. It weighs heavy.

It would be nice if we had an ability to immediately see the end result of the decisions we make. But most often we must wait and the waiting itself becomes a weight.

I hear Him remind me gently and quietly in the stillness of the night …

“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.”
(Psalm 37:5, NLT)

“Commit” in the Hebrew goes beyond just entrusting. It “means to roll over onto the Lord” (from the Holman Old Testament Commentary on the Psalms). Once rolled over, it then lies fully with Him and not a bit on us at all. I find myself struggling not so much with the rolling it over to Him but with the leaving it there.

How does one not pick it back up?

“Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you.” (Psalm 55:22, NLT)

I am beginning to see that it comes down to the matter of believing what He says …

  • Do I believe He will help me?
  • Do I believe He will take care of me?

As I lay in the stillness and darkness of the night, I found myself humming. And the answer came as I recognized the old familiar song ,,,

“I remember when my burdens rolled away; I had carried them for years, night and day. When I sought the blessed Lord, and I took Him at His word, Then at once all my burdens rolled away.”
(taken from the old hymn, “I Remember When My Burdens Rolled Away, by Minnie A. Steele)

Finding myself grateful that I can come before Him and cry out much like the father seeking healing for his son, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”
(Mark 9:24, NLT)

Unbelief can be overcome.

We overcome it when we take Him at His Word.

Roll the burden onto Him.
