Five-Minute-Friday-4-300x300

I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.

Today the word prompt is … Plan.

I love when things go as planned for then they seem to go as scheduled, to my preference, with ease, and enjoyment.

I’m noticing much of life seems to occur outside of the plan, for no one ever plans …

  • to have their heart broken
  • to have an argument with a spouse, or family member or close friend
  • to be laid off from a job
  • for a divorce
  • for financial difficulties
  • for their child to misbehave from sun-up to sun-down
  • for illness

Yet even in the midst of the unplanned, there seems to be a plan. As I thought on plans, several people came to mind –

  • a flooding of the earth was not what Noah had in mind
  • Joseph might have wanted to display his multi-colored coat to his brothers and father rather than being sold into slavery
  • Moses probably would have liked to lead people who grumbled less and listened more
  • Job, none of what happened – None – was in his mind

But they were in God’s plans and He surely plans differently than we do. In fact, this morning I was surprised to read, “O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans are too numerous to list. You have no equal.” (Psalm 40:5, NLT)

He has more things planned for our lives than we can even count. They’re too numerous for our limited minds. But His plans for us are with intent – with a purpose to do something. And He carries them out in our lives with intentionality, not haphazardly.

The disruption of plans does not mean the plan is not good. In fact, I remember this saying –

“God promises a safe landing but not always a calm passage.” (Anonymous)

He holds the plan for our lives.
