I read the words before me on the screen which she had written … “I am at my wits’ end!” Knowing the situation, I knew she was totally exasperated. Out of mental resources. She couldn’t figure it out. She could do no more.

Having not heard the expression very often, I was surprised it had crossed my path for the second time. The first time was in Scripture while I read in the morning …

“They reeled and staggered like drunkards, and were at their wits’ end.”
(Psalm 107:27, NLT)

The “they” mentioned here are God’s people. And yet, they also knew the very same feeling as my friend. Curious now, I continued reading to discover what happens:

  1. They cried out to God. “Lord, help! they cried in their trouble …”
    (verse 28a, NLT)
  2. He saved them. “… and he saved them from their distress.” (verse 28b, NLT)
  3. He calmed the storm. “He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves.” (verse 29, NLT)
  4. He brings blessing and safety. “What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor!” (verse 30, NLT)

There can be no better remedy for our wits. May we come to Him, admitting our need for His help. We come continually to Him until He helps, assured of the promise He does bring us safely through each storm which occurs in our lives.

Are you at your wits’ end?

Cry out to Him.

He will help you.

He will calm the storm.

He will bring you safely into harbor.

And that is blessing!
