Five-Minute-Friday-4-300x300Most Fridays, I join Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word.

Today the word prompt is ā€¦ Celebrate.

In seeing the word, I type it into my search bar:

“to observe with festivities; to make known publicly; to praise widely; to participate in an uninhibited good time.” (dictionary.com)

The father of the prodigal son felt the need to celebrate upon his son’s return. The mere sight of him in the distance caused him “to be filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20, NLT)

Uninhibited. No concern for what he would look like, an old man running with his robes tangling between his legs. Perhaps with difficulty keeping his sandals on his feet. Or maybe, he kicked them off even. All we are told is that he ran.

This same father insists the finest robe be put on his son. And a ring on his finger. Sandals on his feet. And a fatted calf for the feast. And he says:

“We must celebrate with a feast. For this son of mine was dead and has not returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found. So the party began.”
(Luke 15:24)

This father observed his son’s return with festivities, a party. He praised the return widely, making sure everyone knew. And they participated in an uninhibited good time.

We are called to celebrate as well:

“They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.” (Psalm 145:7, NIV1984)

It is in celebrating the goodness of our Lord that we make Him known publicly.
And as we celebrate Him, may we do so uninhibited.
May we rejoice in our God with exuberance.
Maybe even with a leap and skip for joy.

And because the word prompt immediately made me hum this šŸ™‚ Today let’s celebrate the goodness of our God!

Today I am joining … Five Minute Friday and Faith Filled Friday and Fellowship Friday and Grace & Truth .
