Five-Minute-Friday-4-300x300I’m joining Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. All of us writing on that same word. For the month of October, I am going to try to incorporate the word prompts into my series, 31 Questions Jesus Asked.

Today’s prompt is …. JOY.

Joy has been defined as “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying“.

Jesus and the disciples had become a band of brothers, closely knit from being together very often all day long for days on end. Jesus knowing the Cross was ahead of Him, and they would experience sadness and confusion, offers insight to the coming days …

  • His Kingdom would not happen the way in which they thought it would
  • adversity would come
  • the world would be rejoicing while they would experience sadness

They began to talk among themselves, not understanding all that He was disclosing to them. And Jesus asks them …

“Are you asking yourselves what I meant?” (John 16:19, NLT)

Jesus saw into their hearts and mind, understanding the turmoil they were in. He realized their desperation to understand all that He was saying.

There are days, we cannot comprehend how life will make sense. The questions mull around in our minds, again and again, with evasive answers. It is then we have this assurance:

“You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy.”
(John 16:20, NLT)

“I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy.
Yes, your joy will overflow!” (John 15:11, NLT)
