I do not remember how long it has been since my paths crossed with Shelly. Her blog posts are a joy to read as they are always full of encouragement, hope, and a song.

Her cheerfulness and positivity are evident in every word shared, which was probably part of the reason it took me time to realize Shelly was chronically ill.

I was delighted when I was asked to review her book. If anyone could write a book to help others through the first days of a chronic illness, it surely would be Shelly.

51LY9MskCXL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_In her book,You’re Chronically Ill… So Now What?, Shelly takes us through the first thirty days of coming to terms with a diagnosis. Each day includes:

  • Scripture
  • commentary and shared experiences
  • a prayer
  • a deeper section with thought provoking questions

Some of the topics which Shelly tackles in this book are anger, change, acceptance, pride, grieving, guilt and hobbies. Each topic is handled with a compassion and gentleness which fully reveals she has experienced each for herself and knows the pain chronic illness brings to every aspect of life. Her deep faith in God is evident in each devotional as she has learned to depend on God for strength each day of her own journey.

This is an excellent resource for individuals or group study. Whether experiencing chronic illness for oneself or walking through it with a family member or friend, this book will surely encourage any reader that God is with them. This devotional makes an excellent gift as it is sure to infuse hope into the difficult experience of chronic illness.
