For the month of October, I joined others in the 31 Day Challenge. You can find my entire month here.

In exploring the questions which Jesus asked those around Him, I began to notice an important quality in Jesus …

Jesus was secure in His identity. He knew who He was and the purpose for which He was sent. He often declared His identity:

  • “I am the Messiah!” (John 4:26, NLT)
  • “Yes, I am the bread of life!” (John 6:48, NLT)
  • “I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12, NLT)
  • “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.” (John 10:7, NLT)
  • “I am the good shepherd.” (John 10:11, NLT)
  • “I am the resurrection and the life.” (John 11:25, NLT)
  • “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6, NLT)
  • “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches.” (John 15:5, NLT)

It seems like a while since I have visited my friends at Hundred Acre Woods. But as I thought about security and identity, I remembered:

You just have to decide whether you are a Tigger or an Eeyore. You have to be clear where you stand on the Tigger/Eeyore debate. (Randy Pausch)

We cannot doubt who Christ declares us to be. For the minute we waver, we will walk in both uncertainty and insecurity. We must be clear on who we have been created to be. In order to live out our days purposefully, we live need to know  we are redeemed, accepted, forgiven, chosen, adopted, and blessed. This is the confidence we walk in.

Jesus now defines us in this way:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV1984)

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10, NLT)

We each have the choice to make. Are we going to walk in our new identity or hold onto the old?

Be clear on where you stand.
Know your identity.
And be you.
