“What are you doing?”, I asked.
“Nothing”, she replied.
But I had heard the sounds and knew exactly what she was doing.
“Don’t touch my computer”, I warned.
The next thing I knew her little three year old self came bounding into the kitchen, “Mimi, how you know what I doing?”
Instant flashback to those days when I was raising my own. In their teenage years, I used to remind them teasingly that mothers have eyes on the back of their heads. I am sure they often wondered if it could possibly be true.
And yet, way too many times, we’re no different than children. We think we are going to get away with something with God. We forget, or maybe overlook, that nothing remains unseen with God.
There is not anything which remains hidden from God. There is no secret, no thought, nor action which He cannot see. We may try to cover up –
- the lie we told
- cheating on our taxes
- a wrong relationship
- our anger or jealousy
Yet He sees it all and we are told …
“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”
(Hebrews 4:13, NLT)
We can come boldly to Him, confident that Jesus, our Advocate, sympathizes with our weaknesses and always offers forgiveness when we come to Him.
He sees even more in our lives; keeping His eye on us through all the twists and turns of life …
Seeing the choices before us, He guides and moves us to the best ones.
Seeing when we are hurting, He is the balm we need to bring healing.
Seeing when we are perplexed, He gives wisdom.
In those times when we cannot see ahead at all, He sees clearly.
He sees. He cares. He is moved.

Today I am joining … Weekend Whispers and Faith ‘n Friends .
I am laughing a little because this is a conversation I have with my teens and 20 year old often. My son is the easiest to see through, he is like a glass window. I am thankful for that, because the transparency is linked to repentance.( that’s a blog post, I think) 🙂 … and with repentance comes the restoration.
And all these lessons we learn as mommas, they lead us to see the father as the best parent. I am so thankful for His grace, especially in the mirror lessons we see in our kids.
Blessings!
Dawn
Dawn, I so agree with you – transparency is linked to repentance. We learn so many lessons as we parent. I have often commented that God grew me up as my children were growing up. Just amazing the lessons we learn along the way.
Blessings,
Joanne
Beautiful encouragement this morning!
I still remember my first grade teacher (whom I was slightly terrified of!) telling the class she had eyes in the back of her head. I believed her and often found myself staring at her gray bob whenever she printed on the chalkboard! This is a terrific reminder, He sees all and knows all before we even do it. And yet is the first One to offer forgiveness and Love when we stray. Thank you for sharing!
Carrie, I think we all had at least one teacher who said that :))) I am so grateful for His loving eyes which are fixed on His own. Always good to join you!
My kids used to believe that I had eyes in the back of my head!! I guess in some ways, all mothers and grandmothers do, right? Thanks for the reminder that we aren’t getting away with anything either…God sees all. He loves us anyway, but He does see it. But that also means He sees us when we are doing good but feel invisible, when we feel like we aren’t getting our due, or that nothing we do matter. He always sees.
Oh Holly, what a beautiful reminder that nothing we do goes unnoticed. We may not get the recognition or acclaim here, but one day won’t we be surprised when He commends us! Grateful you shared!
Oh I remember using the eyes on the back of my head statement with my children and I know my parents used it with us. What a wonderful illustration of how He sees it all…nothing is hidden from Him. Sunday blessings to you, Joanne.
Good Morning Beth –
May you know – deep in your heart – that He sees you. He sees each feeling, each thought and you are not alone.
Blessings!
