The start of a new year brings a time of reflection for many. We look back over the last year, taking stock of the areas we fell short, in an effort to plan differently moving forward. The thought process is to have a better year, not to make the same mistakes, and to reach our full potential.

God reminds us to look forward with these words:

“But forget all that –
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
(Isaiah 43: 18-19, NLT)

This Scripture invites us to join God in His activity. Those things He did in 2015 will pale compared to what He is going to do in 2016. And the thing is – He has already begun. He is doing something new now, already, and presently.

In her book, Wherever the River Runs, Kelly Minter writes this about prayer:

“We often view God as a last resort when working through difficulties, wants, scares, or sickness … But in the Amazon … Prayer becomes not merely the addendum or accessory but the lifeline.” (page 161)

There is much I continue to learn from our Lulu Mamas as they started this month off with weekly prayer and fasting. They are leading the way in showing me the essential ingredient needed this coming year – prayer.

Our cultures may be different but in many ways are the same.

These Mamas, who are miles away and on a different continent, are teaching me on the subject of prayer and fasting. Today I am sharing over at The Lulu Tree. I hope you will join me there .
